چکیده

Although mining is essential for human economic development, amongst the most polluting anthropogenic sources that influence seriously in water resources. Thus, understanding presence and concentration of heavy metals sediment vicinity mines important sustainability ecosystem. In this work, a multidisciplinary approach was developed to characterize contamination level, source apportionment, co-existence, degree ecological health risks HMs on resources Vatukoula Goldmine region (VGR), Fiji. The outcomes suggested significant by Cd (range: 0.01–0.95 g/L), Pb 0.03–0.53 Mn 0.01–3.66 g/L) samples surpassed level set Fiji international laws, whereas higher 2.60–23.16 mg/kg), 28.50–200.90 mg/kg) Zn 36.50–196.66 were detected samples. Lead demonstrated strong co-existence network with other (e.g., Mn, Ni). Source apportionment recognized four patterns (Cd, Pb, Ni, Mn) (Cr, Cd–Pb, Zn) which further confirmed principal component analysis. mine inputs mainly contributed (66.07%) water, while mineral processing mostly (76.10%) sediment. High non-carcinogenic (>1) carcinogenic (>10 −4 ) risks, particularly children, are related elevated Cd, Cr contents from VGR. Uncertainty analysis demonstrates 90th quantile led risk. Pollution indices disclosed moderate extremely status along Toko dam poses high identified index calculation. However, quality indicators based probable effect levels showed there 75% likelihood concentrations adjacent VGR have severe toxic impact aquatic lives. • Water pollution assessed near goldmine (Fiji). Both contaminated (by Zn, Pb) activities. Indices evaluation invokes polluted sediments. Sediment assessments reveal impacts

Surface water pollution with heavy metals in Certej mining basin

The Certej basin is situated in the North of Deva town, in Apuseni Mountains and was an important nonferrous mining region. In present the mining activities were stopped, but the acid mine drainage is still affecting the underground water quality. Acid Mine Drainage takes place where sulphide-bearing material is exposed to oxygen and water. This drainage water is characterized by low pH, high s...

Health risks of heavy metals from long-range transboundary air pollution

The heavy metals cadmium, lead and mercury are common air pollutants , being emitted mainly as a result of various industrial activities. Although the atmospheric levels are low, they contribute to the deposition and build-up in soils. Heavy metals are persistent in the environment and are subject to bioaccumulation in food-chains. Cadmium exposures are associated with kidney and bone damage. C...

Potential soil pollution by heavy metals in Kurdistan region, western Iran: the impact of ultramafic bedrock

Ultramafic rocks of the ophiolitic complexes are prone to alteration and degradation, and therefore, ease of mobility of heavy metals such as nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr), cobalt (Co), lead (Pb), and vanadium (V), resulting in environmental hazards. The ultramafic rocks of the ophiolitic realm of Kurdistan province, west of Iran, show field and compositional evidence for such hazardous conditions...

Assessment of Heavy Metals Pollution in Water and Sediments of Djendjen River, North Eastern Algeria

Water and sediment samples have been collected from five different stations, located along Djendjen River between February and June, 2016 so that the concentrations of Cd, Ni, Zn, and Cu could be determined. The extent of the sediment pollution has been assessed, using the multiple pollution indices, namely Contamination Factor (CF), Pollution Load Index (PLI), and the geoaccumulation index (Ig...
